Alternate Paint Scheme

May 13, 2010 1 comment

I’ve been steadily painting infantry, solos, and a warcaster for the past two months and after I’m done, moving back to jacks. With that in mind, its likely that I’m going to paint my second Crusader and Vanquisher. The nice choice I’m facing is, do I switch to a different paint scheme altogether or just mix up the original pallet?

To put it bluntly, I’m getting kind of tired of painting red. The coverage is bad and it takes me a while to paint just a couple of miniatures. I read about other people painting a solo in one night and only wish I could do that. It’s part of the reason I participated in the miniature paint trade on the forums. It gave me an opportunity to paint something different and practice with new colours.

The scheme I’m going for is pretty similar to the one I have now. My primary colour will be grey and the secondary purple along with brassy brass and gunmetal metal metallics.  As I was painting my Cleansers, I base coated the red with Sanguine base and noticed how good the dark purple goes with the grey. Its not something I’m going to fret about but its definitely a thought.

Is there anyone out there that does this, that has a large army and wants to differentiate units and/or jacks?

Cinerators’ Repose & Recap

May 6, 2010 2 comments

This past Monday, I spent the majority of the night putting together my Cinerators. During the process, I forgot how nice it is to work with plastic and the outstanding quality and detail in Privateer’s plastic models. While I was assembling them, it occurred to me that it might be possible to repose a couple of their sword arms to give them a more dynamic pose.

After cutting the socket a little that joins the sword arm to the body, I came up with these two poses. I’ll have to go back and add a little green stuff but it won’t be too bad. My favorite one is the guy that’s looking to slash right through the opponent.

They performed admirably in Tuesday nights game as Ashen Veil and Dirge of Mists gave them a respectable defense. They managed to take on a charge from Thorn Ravagers and live. Albeit, it was close as only one of them was left over. I then resurrected two of them and the last three took out some Wood Stalkers and Wolves of Orboros.

Now I just have to paint them 🙂

Tie goes to the Testament

The votes have come in and it’s a tie between the Testament of Menoth and Feora – Protector of the Flame. Seeing how I spent the majority of last night putting together Cinerators, the tie goes to the Testament. I want to thank all the folks that voted.

I modified the list a little and took out the TFG w/ UA and replaced them with a minimal unit of Deliverers and a Sunburst Crew. It really came down to playability. The last time I played a troop heavy army, I felt I had too many melee guys and didn’t get back what I invested in them. This time around, I feel I have a good mix of melee and ranged attacks.

It also turns out that my original Testament list was way over 50 pts. Whoops. Here’s the final one and its 50 points.

Pick a List

May 1, 2010 3 comments

This Tuesday is a rare opportunity for me to play a game at the LGS. I’m going to be playing against Ron (xcom on the boards) and its a 50 pt match. He’s prepping for a 50 pt Steamroller tourney this Saturday in Virginia and wanted a prep run.

Its been a while since my last match, and I thought it would be a good idea to play a caster I rarely or if ever use. Four of them come to mind, Grand Scrutator Severius, The Testament of Menoth, Grand Exemplar Kreoss, and Feora – Protector of the Flame.

Out of all of the casters listed above, I’ve played Severius the most, which isn’t saying a whole lot considering its roughly 4-5 games. Feora2 I’ve played once against my friend Barrett and both the Testament of Menoth and Grand Exemplar Kreoss, I’ve never used.

I’m posting four 50 pt lists in hopes of people voting on which one I should take. Keep in mind my model count is average and I don’t have Knights Exemplar, Zealots, or any Protectorate AD unit. Shame on me I know, no Zealots or KE, what kind of Menite am I.

There you have it, all four lists filled with pure win 🙂 The one catch is the Cinerators, I’m not sure if they’ll arrive by Tuesday. If they don’t, I’ll swap them out in the Testament list and just proxy them with Bastions in the Severius list.

Comments welcome.

Testament of Menoth

I recently finished the Testament of Menoth and I’m not sure how I like him. In the process of trying to make him a little different, I experimented with his front armor plates. Originally, I had them red along with his robe and highlited the edges with gunmetal metal. This made him look really red, and I wanted to break it up. I went back and highlighted the armor plates with Brassy Brass then added a wash of GW Thraka Green, then two more washes of GW Devlan Mud. Here’s the final result.

Here’s the original way I had him.

Let me know what you think.

Changing Locales

A while back, I decided to move our home to WordPress. In the change, I hope we can provide more articles, paint entries, theme armies, battle reports, and an assortment of other stuff related to Warmachine and Hordes. Our local game store also moved locations and it should provide us with a better opportunity to expand the Warmahordes gaming community in southern MD.

Check out the site and let us know what you think.

Epic Feora or Feora2…

March 31, 2010 Leave a comment

Or whatever you like to call her. This is the first epic caster I painted and it was really fun. The one problem I had with the model was the smoke stacks. After spray painting the first layer of primer, she fell from my hands and hit the ground. Ouch! I didn’t realize it at the time but one of the smoke stacks came off. I went scurrying about looking for the thing but to no avail. Enough with the talk, here she is.

I hope to have the Testament of Menoth by weeks end as he’s about 90% completed.
